Preposition

Preposition: যে word অথবা group of words সাধারণত noun (phrase) অথবা pronoun এর পূর্বে বসে তার সাথে বাক্যের অন্য word এর সম্পর্ক/সংযোগ স্থাপন করে এবং স্থান, অবস্থান, সময় অথবা পদ্ধতি নির্দেশ করে তাকে

preposition বলে ।

যেমনঃ in, of, off, to, by, from, after, before, since, considering, following, regarding, into, out of, outside, inside, as to, next to, ahead of, apart from, previous to, thanks to, instead of, on behalf of, in front of ইত্যাদি।

Kinds of Prepositions:

• Simple prepositions: at, by, for, from, of, off, in, on, out, through, to, till, up, with
• Compound prepositions: preposition (as prefix, a = on, be=by) + noun/adjective/adverb. about, above, across, along, amidst, among, amongst, around, before, behind, below, beneath, beside, between, beyond, inside, outside, underneath, within, without.
• Phrase/Phrasal prepositions: according to, along with (cc), because of, owing to, instead of, [preposition + noun + preposition in front of, in lieu of, by dint of, in spite of, with regard to, in addition to, with a view to etc.] He acted according to my advice. Instead of talking, prove your worth by doing something. He stood in front of me.
• Participle/participial prepositions: barring (apart from), considering (consideration), concerning ( = about), following (after), pending, regarding, respecting, touching (= with regard to), given (= considering), gone (= past) etc.
